After a short administrative update, each meeting will include two Project updates (~ 45 mins / project) or 3 Core updates (25 mins / core). Each presentation is coordinated by the designated Project, Core, or CDP lead. The lead will consult with the PIs on their project/core and designate who will present and how the presentations will be constituted, preferably including a mix of senior and junior level presenters each month.

Teleconference meetings are held the 3rd Friday of each month at 10:00-11:30 AM PT.

B-HIVE Winter Face-to-Face Meeting

The 4th annual B-HIVE Winter F2F meeting will be February 5-6, 2026 at the Emory Conference Center (Address:  1615 Clifton Rd, Atlanta, GA 30329;  Phone: 404-712-6000; https://www.emoryconferencecenter.com).

We will hold an in-person training workshop based on RNA methods led by Wei-Shau Hu, Karin Musier-Forsyth, and Megan Ken the day before the meeting on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, starting at 1pm. A detailed agenda for the training workshop will be provided in January.

We will provide a detailed meeting schedule in January, which will be similar to last year’s Winter F2F meeting, with a welcome reception at Wisteria Lanes on Wednesday evening (7 – 10pm), project and core presentations starting Thursday morning, a Thursday poster session, and a breakout session and recap on Friday. Breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks and snacks will be provided on Thursday and Friday, and dinner will be provided on Thursday night. The meeting will end at 4 pm on Friday.

B-HIVE Winter Face-to-Face Meeting

We held an in-person training workshop based on mass spec-related methods on the day before the main meeting.

We began with a welcome reception at Wisteria Lanes on Wednesday evening (7 – 10 pm), project and core presentations started Thursday morning, a Thursday poster session, and a breakout session and recap on Friday. Breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks and snacks were provided on Thursday and Friday, and dinner was provided on Thursday night. The meeting ended at 4 pm on Friday.

B-HIVE Winter Training Retreat

February 12, 2025

On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, we held an in-person training workshop led by Drs. Kaylee Grabarkewitz, Patrick Griffin, Timothy O’Leary, and Vicki Wysocki, based on mass spec-related methods.  The workshop began at 1pm, on the day prior to the B-HIVE Face-to-Face meeting.  A video recording of this workshop will be available by the end of March 2025.

Pat Griffin and Tim O’Leary presented, “HDX-MS for analysis of non-covalent protein-ligand interactions, and proteomics for analysis of covalent ligands.”

Vicki Wysocki and Kaylee Grabarkewitz presented, “Complementarity of Native MS with cryoEM and Mass Photometry.”

Dr. Art Olson provided an informal workshop and demonstration using VR technology, “Exploring and Learning about Virus Structure and Symmetry in an Augmented Reality environment.”

The National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) hosted the annual HIV Structural Biology Meeting on Monday, June 23rd and Tuesday, June 24th, 2025 virtually.  Invites were sent from NIAID to B-HIVE Center members only. Each Center presented research updates for 1 hour, as in past meetings.

The 2025 Summer Face-to-Face meeting was rescheduled to the Fall.  This year it was held on Monday, October 6, 2025, as a virtual-only, half-day meeting.

Congratulations to Karin Musier-Forsyth, PhD!  She has been awarded the RNA Society / Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press Distinguished Research Mentor Award for 2026.

The RNA Society/Cold Spring Harbor Press Distinguished Research Mentor Award was established in 2021 to recognize outstanding mentorship by full members of our society in all its forms. It aims to highlight the importance of fostering the academic and professional development of other scientists and mentoring will be broadly considered to include any activity that contributes to the sustained vibrancy and growth of the RNA scientific community.   • We are pleased to announce that Charles Bou-Nader, PhD, an Assistant Professor (Bou-Nader Lab), Department of Biochemistry, at Emory University, is our CDP recipient for 2025-2026. Proposed Study: Molecular basis of HIV-1 integration at R-loop structures.
  • We are delighted to share that Greg Voth, PhD, a Haig P. Papazian Distinguished Service Professor (Voth Group), Department of Chemistry, University of Chicago, has been awarded the 2025 American Chemical Society National Theoretical Chemistry Award for his groundbreaking work in field of computational chemistry.
  • B-HIVE Center member Janet Iwasa, PhD was recently awarded the 2025 Bruce Alberts Award for Excellence in Science Education from the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB)!  This award is given to an individual who has demonstrated innovative and sustained contributions to science education, prioritizing the national impact of the nominee’s activities.
